KOHA LIVECD 3.0.4 UBUNTU 9.10 32-bit Readme.txt by Mizstik (mizstik@gmail.com) Check my project page for information and updates: http://mizstik.com/projects/koha-livecd/ Follow me on Twitter! http://twitter.com/Mizstik Koha is one tough application to install by today's standard, even when things aren't going wrong. This LiveCD will change that. All you need to do is pop the disc in, install Ubuntu, and Koha installs itself along with it - no work required! You don't even need an internet connection. Better yet, try out Koha or demo it to your clients without having to install anything. Pop the CD in and boot into Live CD mode - Koha is already running in the RAM! Koha's web-based admin panel comes with some sample data too. Instructions: 1. Turn on your PC, insert Koha Live CD. 2. At the bootmenu, select one of the following according to what you want to do: Live CD - boot into Live CD mode and try out Koha. There's also an install link on the desktop. Install - go straight into the installer to install Koha to hard disk. Safe XVesa - if you have graphics problems, try this option, or find another PC. Memory Test, Boot HDD - self-explanatory. 3. Once the Live CD has finished loading (or you have installed Koha to hard drive), point the browser to http://localhost:8080 to continue with Koha's web installer. You can also do this from another PC on the network by using the IP or domain name. Username: kohaadmin Password: katikoan (These are Koha's default.) RELEASE NOTES & KNOWN ISSUES in Release 3: Most issues so far are related to booting and installing due to Ubuntu 9.10 upgrading to grub-pc. As for Koha itself, it should be business as usual. - You may experience random screen flickering while it tries to boot and in some cases it may fail to boot (especially in VM). If this happens, try powering down the machine (don't just reset it) and try again from cold boot. - (probably VM only) Sometimes the installation may fail randomly with the error message about the filesystem being read-only. You need to start over again if this happens. Keep your VM on-focus and minimize background activities on your host machine. - (probably VM only) It may boot into the desktop with a garbled screen. Restart the machine and it should be ok. Note that this doesn't affect Koha's functionality at all so you can use it over the network (or headless) even when this occurs. - I have removed some large packages to reduce the size of the ISO to fit a CD. However, while installing, if the PC is connected to the internet, the installer will try to redownload these "missing" packages (including OpenOffice) and this can take a very long time. I recommend disconnecting from the internet while you're installing. (Or you can let it download if you prefer to have those applications back.) In case you're wondering, these are some (not all) of the main packages I removed (along with their dependents): ubuntu-docs openoffice.org-* gimp-* evolution-common rhythmbox tomboy example-content f-spot gnome-screensaver - Because of the difficulty in generating the Live CD image this time (as remastersys doesn't work with Ubuntu 9.10 yet so I had to do it manually) I've decided to publish only one version, which is the CD-size version. However, this time I have not removed any old drivers (and even included the backport modules) so there should be no problem. Please do note that Ubuntu 9.10 comes with a newer kernel so it may naturally cease working with some older hardware. - If you need the older versions (namely Ubuntu 9.04 and Koha 3.0.3) the old torrents will still be there. You can find it on my project page.
