Koha Live CD Release 5

Some major changes in this release. First of all, I built this release from a minimal install of Ubuntu Server edition instead of starting with the desktop edition and stripping it down to fit the CD. I still have to add GUI because we need a web browser to configure Koha so the total size is nearly the same (since the prior versions were stripped bare anyway) but the kernel is the server’s PAE version.

Second, I have included a Koha wallpaper on the Live CD to differentiate it from normal Ubuntu Live CD. It also helps to distinguish whether you’ve booted into the Live CD or your existing Ubuntu installation in the harddisk. Additionally, the readme file is now present on the desktop of the Live CD for your convenience.

And finally, the default password for koha’s administrator is no longer ‘katikoan’, to increase a little security. Be sure to check the readme file for the updated instructions as well as new issues that became unavoidable due to Remastersys and Ubuntu 10.04.

Koha Live CD Release 4

This release adds the much-requested Zebra support and updates Koha to 3.0.5. You don’t need to configure anything, as I have pre-configured zebra daemons to start automatically and added the crontab for indexing, which will be there as soon as the Live CD starts up. You do need to select to use Zebra when you go through the web-installer wizard, as well as selecting “Marc21″ when asked.

Hopefully I’ll get another long holiday to update to either 3.0.6 or 3.2 when they’re released.

Torrent Server Going Offline

Ever since I put the download on sourceforge, the torrents have been deserted so I’m taking down the primary seeding server as I have other roles for it now. The torrent still works as long as someone who has downloaded it before still seeds it.

Koha Live CD now on SourceForge

I have been advised that since Koha is an open-source project, it is eligible to be hosted on sourceforge.net which appears to have no space or bandwidth limit. So there you go.

Coincidentally sourceforge.net appeared to have been down for a while just a few hours ago and after it came back up the file list didn’t match what it has. So if you can’t access it now just try again later.

Note that only release 3 has been uploaded at the moment. Sourceforge doesn’t play nice with my dual-wan setup so I can only interact with that site at certain times of day.

Koha Live CD Release 3

Both Koha and Ubuntu got updated recently to Koha 3.0.4 and Ubuntu 9.10 so I figured I should update my Live CD too. It was a bit difficult since remastersys is not working with Ubuntu 9.10 yet so had to do it manually, but by and large it works fine. You can get it here.

This release coincides with my site’s migration to WPMU so please excuse me if the site looks a little unpolished right now.
